SINCE 1910
The Valles Group of Companies has been in the shipping business
for nearly 100 years, successfully weathering the many adversities
occasioned by war and economic influences.
Valles was founded as a family business in Shanghai in the 1910's,
providing cargo liner services along the Yangtze River and the Northern
Coast of China. The fleet expanded rapidly including the addition
of passenger vessels, providing a service beyond the coastal waters
of China.
STEERING SAFELY
In 1949, the Company's operations were transferred to Hong Kong
and Valles Steamship Company Ltd. was incorporated. In the early
1950's, Valles operated a number of 10000 DWT vessels on charter
to major Japanese shipping companies and were traded worldwide.
In the 1960's further fleet expansion was undertaken, including
new building tonnage and several smaller second hand product carriers,
which were on long-term charter to the US Oil Majors.
The 1980's and 1990's saw further expansion for Valles mainly with
new buildings where Aframax tankers and Panamax and Cape Size Bulkcarriers
were added to the fleet.
RELIABLY
Valles has enjoyed a close relationship with Japanese shipyards
since the 1960's and most of the new buildings were undertaken at
first class Japanese shipyards. Valles has always been conservative
in its outlook and new building orders were placed against long-term
charter contracts with very solid Operators.
In 1995, Valles Steamship (Canada) Ltd was formed and the management
of the Valles' fleet was transferred to Valles' office in Vancouver,
where it remains to this date.
1999 saw consolidation in Valles with the disposal of older tonnage
and placement of new building orders with Japanese shipyards.
CONFIDENTLY At present, Valles operates a fleet of two panamax bulk carriers and ten Aframax tankers with an enviable fleet age. Valles has on the order books with Chinese yards order for three more high specification Aframax tankers and two modern IMO II Product / Chemical tankers.
Valles's fleet management style has always been pro-active and
the highest importance is paid to fleet maintenance, a fact that
has been recognized by Valles clients. Valles incorporated Quality
Management and ISM long before ISM became mandatory.
Valles is not a public listed Company and is owned and operated
by the Koo family under the Managing Directorship of Mr. David Koo.
